Two ways to win.

Prize 01 · Most likes
$1,000

The most-liked board.

The board with the most likes when entries close wins. Every heypcb account can like a board once.

Prize 02 · Best board
$1,000

The best board.

The heypcb team picks it from every entry, no matter how many likes it has. We judge what the board does, how well it is made, and whether it would work if you built it.

Entries.

The board with the most likes when entries close wins $1,000. The best-board prize is judged on design, not likes, so every entry here can still win it.

This list is in random order, not ranked by likes.

Like counts are hidden until entries close on November 30, so nobody can see who is ahead. If you entered, you can see your own entry's likes and nobody else's. Every like still counts, and the ranking is shown here when entries close.

Reading the standings

From your board to the challenge.

Publish a finished board from its Share menu and it is entered. Its card goes up on Circuit World, and it joins the list of entries.

A replay of the heypcb editor with a finished board, RGB halo, open on the PCB. A pointer presses Share, then Enter the challenge in the Share dialog. In the publish dialog it types three tags and presses Publish to Circuit World, and the dialog shows the board entered in the $2,000 Hardware Challenge; the pointer copies the entry link. The board then appears first under Recently published on Circuit World with an Entry badge, and its row joins the challenge's list of entries, where its own like count goes up. The list numbers no places, and the other boards on both pages are drawn blank.

The rules.

Who can enter
Anyone with a heypcb account can enter, on any plan, including the free trial. There is nothing to buy, and paying does not change your odds.
What counts as an entry
An entry is a board you designed yourself and published to Circuit World during the challenge, with the entry box ticked in the publish dialog. Each person gets one entry, and it competes for both prizes. If you enter a second board, your first entry is withdrawn.
Original work
You can fork any board on Circuit World. A fork only counts as an entry if you add substantial design work of your own and describe it in the summary. Republishing someone else's design as your own gets the entry removed.
Team
You can build with a team. Invite collaborators from the editor's Share menu and work on the board together, live. Anyone who changes the board can be credited on its card under the name they choose, and the publisher decides who is credited. The person who publishes the board is the entrant.
Likes
Each account can like a board once. That includes your own board and a board you are credited on. You can take a like back. Until entries close on November 30, like counts are hidden from everyone but each entry's own entrant, so nobody can see who is ahead. Until then the entries are listed in a random order that changes each day, and an entry's place in that list is not its rank. Every like still counts, and when entries close the standings show every count in order.
Fair play
Share your board anywhere you like. You may not use several accounts, bots, or paid likes. We remove those likes, and repeated or large-scale abuse removes the entry.
The best board
The heypcb team picks the best board from every entry after entries close. We judge the design, not the likes: what the board does, how well it is made, and whether it would work if you built it.
The deadline
Entries close November 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT. Only likes cast before then count for the most-likes prize. Likes cast after the deadline still show on your card, but they do not count.
Ties
A tie for the most likes goes to the board that entered the challenge first. Republishing a board to fix something does not change its entry time.
The prizes
There are two winners. Each prize is $1,000: $500 in cash and $500 in heypcb credit. A board can win only one prize. If the board with the most likes is also our pick for best board, it takes the most-likes prize, and the best-board prize goes to our next pick. Both winners are also guaranteed an internship at heypcb and an interview for a founding engineer role. You must be legally able to accept a prize where you live, and you are responsible for any taxes. If we cannot reach a winner within 14 days of the announcement, the prize goes to the next board in line: the next in the standings for most likes, or our next pick for best board.
Withdrawing and removal
You can withdraw at any time, even after the deadline, by unticking the entry box. We remove entries that are not the entrant's own work, that we would not host on our front page, or that were not designed in heypcb.
Changes
If a rule changes, we post the change here with its date. A change never withdraws an entry or removes a like it has collected. If these rules do not cover a situation, heypcb decides, and that decision is final.October 10, 2026: like counts are hidden until entries close, so the standings no longer show a count, a rank or a total, and list the entries in a new order each day. Each entrant still sees their own board's count. Every like already cast is kept, and when entries close the standings show every count in order.October 9, 2026: you can now like your own board, and a collaborator credited on an entry can like it too. It is one like per account, the same as for everyone else, and it counts toward the most-likes prize the same way. Updating an entry no longer withdraws a credited collaborator's like, and the September 29 note below no longer applies.October 6, 2026: we added a second $1,000 prize for the best board, picked by the heypcb team, and moved the deadline from October 31 to November 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT. Every entry already made stays in, keeps its likes, and competes for both prizes. The internship and the founding engineer interview now go to both winners.September 29, 2026: an entry can now credit the collaborators who built it. A credited collaborator cannot like the entry, the same as its entrant. The entrant chooses who to credit when they publish. If a collaborator liked the board before being credited, that like is withdrawn when the entry is updated to credit them.
